Preserved roses are one of those things that seem almost magical until you understand the science behind them. Real roses, staying beautiful for years without any water or sunlight? Here's exactly how it works.
Step 1 โ Harvesting at Peak Bloom
The process begins at the rose farm. Roses are harvested at the precise moment of peak bloom โ when the petals are fully open, the colour is most vibrant, and the structure is at its most perfect. Timing is everything. A rose harvested too early or too late won't preserve as beautifully.
Step 2 โ Dehydration
Once harvested, the roses are dehydrated to remove the natural moisture from the petals, stems, and leaves. This step is critical โ it's what makes the petals receptive to the preservation solution that follows.
Step 3 โ The Glycerin Bath
The dehydrated roses are submerged in a preservation solution โ typically a mixture of glycerin (a natural, plant-derived compound), water, and sometimes natural dyes to enhance or restore colour.
The glycerin slowly replaces the moisture that was removed during dehydration. Over several days, it penetrates every cell of the petal, stem, and leaf โ creating a flexible, lifelike structure that maintains the rose's appearance indefinitely.
Step 4 โ Drying and Finishing
After the glycerin bath, the roses are carefully dried and inspected. Any imperfect petals are removed. The colour is checked for vibrancy and consistency. The roses are then allowed to fully cure before arrangement.
Step 5 โ Arrangement and Packaging
At Floragram, preserved roses are hand-arranged in our signature luxury velvet gift boxes. Every box is inspected before packaging to ensure it meets our quality standards.
Are the Colours Natural?
The base colour of the rose is natural โ but the preservation process can slightly alter or fade certain shades. Natural dyes are sometimes added during the glycerin bath to restore vibrancy or create specific colour palettes like blush pink or warm cream.
Are Preserved Roses Safe?
Yes โ completely. The glycerin used in preservation is a natural, non-toxic compound derived from plants. It's the same ingredient used in skincare products and food manufacturing. Preserved roses are safe to handle and display in any living space.
Why Do Floragram Roses Last Longer?
Quality comes down to three things: the quality of the rose at harvest, the precision of the preservation process, and the care taken during arrangement and packaging. At Floragram, we control all three.
